Designing with Lines of Light

Designing with Lines of Light

Linear lines of light offer a powerful tool to emphasise the architectural lines of a space and enhance visual interest. Whilst their simplicity adds an understated element of depth and avant-garde minimalism to a project, they can also be designed in more artistic ways to offer accent lighting that accentuates key architectural features.

Like all lighting schemes, specification needs to be done at the earliest stages of the design process, so that the lights can be applied to compliment the design of the space as well for practical reasons such as access and maintenance.

Here, we look at linear lighting in application and discuss the key factors to consider during the design process of each.

We've supported the production of Toyota's latest short film, which is part of a series of promotional videos that challenge the strengths of the Hilux truck.

In the latest challenge, Toyota took inspiration from their famous 1980s stunt in which a fleet of miniature radio-controlled Tamiya Bruiser models successfully hauled a full-sized Hilux. Fast Forward to today and the Hilux has become a much bigger and heavier vehicle; raising serious questions as to whether the miniature machines could repeat the feat.

We wanted to get involved and show our support for the miniature Tamiya Bruisers, which were proving that just because they’re small doesn’t mean they’re not powerful; an ethos that we apply to the design of our miniature downlights.

We supplied custom graphics for the cars and fitted them with miniature LEDs and working indicators. They were ready to take on the challenge.

The 4th Dimension of Architecture

The 4th Dimension of Architecture

We believe that lighting is the 4th dimension of architecture, yet it is often over-looked, value engineered or left until the last minute of the building or design process. As lighting people, we are bound to be biased but we strongly believe that a space designed by an architect or decorated by an interior designer requires lighting to complement, accentuate and enhance the ambience and bring the architecture to life. Good lighting creates the difference between a project that impresses or underwhelms.
